    New PA hanger

Well - since I've aleady made a couple posts (some tried to be helpful, some I hoped were humorous - a forlorn hope according to MBH), I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a soon to be retired 30-year veteran of the PA National Guard and a no-end in sight for my M-F job. I'm a proud papa of two scouts and plan on going out on most of their adventures. I've been reading all I can about hammock camping and I'm looking forwrd to my first hang in the wild.

Since I've started here, I've DIY'd a foldable 2x4 PHS (ala Trail4ax) and 2 TLS's w/Olddog mods (no pics, nothing is in a completely finished state, yet). Why 2? Both my boys spent a night in my HH Explorer Deluxe before I could, and told me that the hammock was better than their beds. So, now they are both full-timing it in their bedrooms in GT SB-Pro's. (Does anyone want to buy some blue racecar bed frames?)

I was finally able to spend the night in the backyard in my HH the other weekend. I started off a little chilly with just a wool blanket for top insulation. Bottom was fine - an army green CCF with my old scout (circa 1972) sleeping bag laid out on top of that - plus I'd put on the UC part of the SS. After I added a fleece hat and a fully opened mummy bag as a TQ, I was toasty the rest of the night. Sunday morning rolls around, and my better half lets me know that I can stay in the hammock and catch up on some rest - she'd take the boys to church. So, they left me hanging - literally and figuratively as it turns out. About half hour after they left, nature called and I went to answer. Now, as I've read here, sharp objects in your pockets are not a good idea in a hammock, so I'd left all my keys in the house...right on the kitchen table...right in plain sight...on the other side of the locked patio door. I am surely glad that no police were cruising by my house as I had to get the ladder out of the shed to climb the roof to get in thru a second-story window! All turned out well, though, and as I said, I'm looking forward to my first real campout with the new sleep system.

Happy hanging and I'm looking forward to meeting folks over the next few years at any group hangs in the NJ/PA area!

p.s. the moniker is the one I use for online things - haven't been blessed with a trail name yet.

You and me both - no trail name either. Something we'll need to work on.
