    Double hammock width?

I am looking to create a hammock for a friend who would like to lay in it with his wife sometimes. They are both under 160 lbs and are also below 5' 8" tall.

I went to wally world and picked out some fabric that I have no doubt will hold them. In fact, it is probably going to be overkill because I am using some heavy packcloth-like material outside with something else on the inside that is more comfortable to lay on. I think the packcloth is very firm and won't stretch much, but we'll see.

    My question is:

Would a ~58" hammock be wide enough for these two people?

Also, is adding length a good idea? I have about 11' to work with.

These specs were taken from my TTTM review. They should be that same as and ENO, Trek Lite, etc.

    Hammock Specs:

    Baby
    Dimensions (in ft.) 5 x 2.5
    Weight (in lbs.) .5

    Single
    Dimensions (in ft.) 10.5 x 5
    Weight (in lbs.) 1.1

    *Double
    Dimensions (in ft.) 10.5 x 6.5
    Weight (in lbs.) 1.3

    King
    Dimensions (in ft.) 10.5 x 7.2
    Weight (in lbs.) 1.5
    Hope that helps.

My fiance and I lie in my hammock together. It began as a 6' piece of fabric, so I guess that it ended up as about 58" after I did the rolled hems. I'm about 6' tall and she's about 5'3". Granted, we don't spend too much time in there together, rarely long enough for a nap, even. However, we do have a larger hammock (no idea what size) and we lay in them in the same way, so the size doesn't make a difference to us.

    Question Thick fabric=flat lay?

I have a question regarding this fabric. Like I was saying, the fabric I have is a packcloth like material--very thick and stiff. Will that mean a flatter lay, and thus make it more two person friendly?

Also, when sewing such material, do I need to switch to a denum needle?
