    interested noooooobie

I've been curious about getting into hammock camping more. I like the idea of having less weight to carry than my 'light' 6lb tent.

I like to make my own gear too, so I spent some time looking at plans for hammocks.

I was watching a good youtube video on cool folding wood stove that mentioned hammockforums.net that led me here.

I've so much to learn, and am excited to have found experts!

Welcome! Not only will a hammock be lighter, it will be infinitely more comfortable.
Of course this comes with a price. Your maximum trail miles per day will be about 3! That's because you won't get out of the hammock until afternoon

Welcome! Another great source of information is JustJeff's site. As MAD777 said, there are lots of other reasons to try hammocks instead of tenting. It's possible to go ultralight without using a hammock but you miss all the intangibles (that is, the rocks and roots underneath you - you just don't feel them when you're sleeping in a hammock).

Now that you mention it, I used to be up before the crack of dawn because I was uncomfortable. Now the rest of the crew has to drag me out.
