Yes, their native pictographs from centuries ago. Nice to know someone was in a canoe long ago and now i'm here so many yrs later.Hard to describe but i feel a bond of some kind.

I left ontario when i was nineteen. After a couple of months wondering around banff and Jasper i hit the Kootenays by accident. Other than 5 yrs in Vancouver i've lived the last 40 in the Kootenays,,,,well i spent plenty of time working seasonally around the province and seeing other equally beautiful places.

Every day is not like in the pics but when its good its good,,,and we all know beauty is skin deep,,,,but it doesn't hurt.

    okay, maybe not
Truly every place has its beauty. I look at some of the pics you guys post and long for flatter country sometimes,,more open woods,,,lazy rivers meandering for miles.

Mbiraman, when i scan the trip reports, i always hope to see your name! Thanks again for the great pics and the chance to live vicariously in BC for a few minutes.

The shores of that lake look totally pristine. Is there any development along its shores, or are we only seeing the unspoiled parts? If there's road access, must be logging, or cabins, or something. Just wondering.

    Thanks for enjoying the TR's
Thankfully there's not a lot of big development at the moment .Of course there was huge development 100-130 yrs ago during the mining boom. At that time most or the surrounding hills were burned off. There are a three small towns on the east side of the lake. Town's of about 250 to 350 people. The hyway is on the east side but because of the topography much of it is away from the lake with the exception of the north end where the hyway runs close to the lake and therefore you can hear logging trucks, Harley's, chip trucks heading to pulp mills etc. Almost all the west side of the lake is a provincial park, Valhalla Prov. Park, with the exception of a few private lots,, no roads. BC does mean logging. When you leave the main valleys where people live you are in logging country and cut blocks abound but this does give you access to areas as well. Its what comes with being in a resource province. Thankfully the mnts make it difficult for industry to clear cut everywhere. Because we live in a beautiful place we are generally opposed to big developments and stop then when we can. Right now an incredible place,Jumbo Pass area in the Percell Mnts east of here, is slated for a huge ski resort,,,ruining it .Some of us don't like these job making ventures at the sacrifice of the natural surroundings ,,,,but that's another discussion. Being away from the city is a start. The scenery is beautiful but not as easy to travel as other area's of North America because of the mnts and thick forest.
    Still ,,,,beautiful

No Kidding. I had lots of plans for this year , most of which didn't happen because of the much needed job i'm on. Snow in 5-8 wks. Got to get out when its easy while we can. Then ,,embrace winter.
