Sturgeon; Go on google earth and type in Slocan Lake ,central kootenays BC and tour around. Get in close SW of the lake and you'll see the back country industry,,,clearcuts. You'll also see around the mnts and lakes much untouched in area's.

MMMAAAATTTTe! If that’s your idea of a quick hooky paddle, I wonder what you do, and where you go, when you plan a BIG trip! If you ever shoot a video trip report it will have to be in widescreen HD. I suppose being in Canada, it doesn't really matter where you go, from what I can gather, it’s all like that – picture perfect! That first photo is VERY inviting! Time to blow the winter dust off my kayak. Thanks for the trip report, mbiraman!

Making a living here can be difficult depending on what you do but lots of folks live here and rarely get out in the surrounding woods or lakkes.

I just bought a boat about a yr and a half ago. Until then the lakes were something i drove around to get somewhere else,,,,on my motorcycle ,,,which i sold to get the kayak. "Good trade".

The truth is i think if you take a set of fairly good looking mnts and put a calm lake in front of it then it looks great. I have a bit of a photographers eye to maximize the moment. Of course the big difference is i live here yr round. I'm pretty familiar with western canada and there are plenty of places that look like this. Its a province of mnts and valleys. Mountains look very dramatic but i think flat wooded areas with lakes have their magic as well.
Lots of folks from OZ ski here in the winter.
