    Under Insulation

Here is my dilemma, I am going for a section hike in 2 days so I don't have time to order a bottom quilt. Just got back in today and was using a Speers CCF 1/4" pad. The pad was sliding around all over the place so I had many cold spots plus I don't know if it is rated for that temp. Just was not a good experience. I am using a Warbonnet Blackbird Double 1.1.

I am thinking of putting together 2 WalMart blue pads but not sure if that is the way to go...any suggestions?

2 walmart pads, one sideways and one lengthways, will work just fine. It'd be a bit bulky attached to your pack.

Put the pads inside the hammock layers, instead of laying on top. They shouldn't move around on you then.

You might get away with one wally world pad and something sideways across your shoulders with less bulk, like a car windshield reflector. Not the best solution, but not bad for short notice. Maybe some drops of silicone all over the pad would help keep it from sliding around. If you can find it, the 24inch pad from wally world is better for shoulder warmth than the 20 inch, but not all stores carry the wider one.

I use the Wallyworld waffle patterned blue pad as it is 24" wide and I find it wide enough for my 6ft 2 and 28 lbs. I used it to 18 degrees one time last winter.

Some people complain about condensation problems when using pads, I have yet to run into that problem. I'm thinking that the waffle pattern of this pad allows for some air circulation thus cutting down on condensation.

Pictue is on the pad in my wife's BB 1.0 dbl

18 degrees is pretty low. How thick is that pad?
