new cuban fiber tarp from ZPacks

I got my new cuben fiber tarp with doors from ZPacks yesterday. It is light as a feather at 6.5 oz. Workmanship is top-notch throughout, and I got some toggles installed so I can roll up the doors when not in use. Thanks Joe for a great product.

Thats the new cuben, its totally see through.

Skyclad, Just got mine the day before our pre-hike for the fall MAHHA. Sealed it up that night & hoped for the best. Well, the pre hike was rain & more rain, what a test for my seam sealing abilities. I have a tip for ya, if for some reason you don't get it sealed well enough around the mitten hooks and you develop a slight drip from the hook underneath because you where in a hurry, run one of the lower center tie out lines up to the mitten hook and use it as a drip line. Works perfectly, believe me.

Loving it the whole time though.

Thanks for the tip BearChaser. Now that I think of it that little hook could be problematic. What's it for?

Other than using it as a drip line connection, I also used it to hang a small ditty bag from. You could also hang a small light, or whatever you may want as long as its not to heavy I guess. Another option is to tie the doors up to it on the inside in windy conditions to keep the from flapping like the sometimes do when tied up on the outside. The outside hook works well for hooking into a continues tarp line or tying up the doors.

I've heard that new cuben fiber material is quite weak. Although light, it doesn't take much to damage(rip or tear)it. Not sure but you might want to be careful. I saw a video with someone showing off his new custom fit cuben fiber quilt by tmoutdoors.com. That thing was real impressive. I considered getting a cuben pack cover, but the lack of durability has me at unease. Any one have problems with their cuben fiber products?

I've been contemplating a zpacks hammock tarp w/ doors as my all-season tarp. I'm wondering if anyone has experience pitching the tarp with a couple of trekking poles or sticks? I'm interested to see if it's possible to use this tarp when "going to ground", if/when it's not feasible to hang.

I have a Zpacks cuben tarp and have used it for over a year now in all kinds of conditions with absolutely no problems. I have been in heavy downpours, high winds and snow. It has held up as well as any sil or spinn tarp that I have use. I also use a cuben Packa made for me by Joe and it has held up just as well. I probably have over 24 nights (not counting backyard test hands) on the trail with the cuben tarp. I used it in January on Roan High Knob with snow, 40 mph winds and a low of 1.8º.

MADD I don't upload photos to HF often enough to remember how it's done. So every time I want to share a photo it turns into a big PITA. I wish they'd let me upload a photo from my computer's hard drive - that'd be a lot easier.
