Brazilian hammock: how to hang it right on the first attempt?

After lots of consideration, I decided to get a Brazilian hammock and since I cannot hang it from my stand, I'm planning to put hardware into the ceiling. So here's the question: how can I make sure I get it right on the first attempt? Even though I have been setting up my camping hammocks for a year now, I still don't get it right in one go most of the time. Which is OK, since it's easy to adjust the webbing. But with the anchor points indoors, I don't want to have to take them out and put them in until I have found the sweet spot...

So are there any hard and fast rules or tricks? If you are using a Brazilian indoors - did you get it right the first time? Any stupid beginner mistakes that I can avoid?

Since nobody has chimed in I will throw this out. How about trying it outside or in the garage or from a pipe at different hang angles distances etc..... until you are sure of anchor point distances. I really have no experience withe this type of hammock but would think practice somewhere less permanent might be the place to start.

    I have this brazilian hammock
    http://www.hammocks.com/hammocks/han...richammock.cfm

hanging in my garage from the beams in ceiling with eye hooks
amsteel line from eye hook to hammock

tried it at diff lengths & finally decided on anchoring the eye hooks at 13ft apart. gives the hammock a lot of sag.

    good luck!

Cannibal has a couple hanging he my chime in shortly. Mine are stand mounted and diys not brazilians. Years ago we mounted a porch swing for my wifes grandparents. We had access to the attic space above the porch and placed a 2"x6" or 8" on top of the bottom chord of the rafters. The eyes were bolted thru the porch ceiling and the 2"x, it's still there and has supported many a behind
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

Unbelievably, I didn't think about this, because I was fixated on the ceiling anchor points. I guess there will still be some calculation involved, since I don't think I will be able to simulate the actual ceiling height / room length, but it will probably give me a better idea.

After turning the problem over and over, I thought I might try to mount some type of post to the ceiling. This way I would have some flexibity, but still only have to drill the wall once.

Sorry for the delayed response, been out of town.

You've already got the right suggestion. When we were setting ours up in the bedroom, we took them outside to hang from trees. We used temporary structural ridgelines to get the hangs right. Genuine Draft is shorter than I am (by a chunk!), so our hammocks have different amounts of sag. Once we had the length of the ridgelines down, it was simply a matter of easy measuring and drilling.
    Trust nobody!

That's interesting. I wasn't aware that body size influences the setup. Good to know.

And a question with regards to the type of Brazilian hammock to buy: I've been searching the forum to find some guidelines but it seems that it's mostly trial and error. Anybody know if this hammock is any good? The selection of large Brazilian hammocks I can get over here is not huge. The market seems to be dominated by about three brands.

Other than the Bahia hammock, I shortlisted these:

I picked the largest hammocks because I got the impression that bigger is better. Not sure if it's maybe overkill for one person. Price-wise most of those hammocks are in the same category (at least in the German shops).

How high is your ceiling and how long is your suspension to the hammock? Got any pictures. I was thinking about buying a Brazilian to replace my DIY. Would like something that will handle my dog that has taken to jumpin into bed with me for an hour or two at all times of the night and I just know a claw is going to leave us on the ground sooner or later. My walls are 13 foot apart so I'm wondering what the attach point would have to be with that hammock.
