    I Need Sleeping Bag Suggestions!

I would like to get an all purpose sleeping bag for use in a hammock, but also be able to use it in a regular tent. I'll be in Vermont in July-August, and the coldest weather I'm likely to see is in the 40s at night (so I'm told).

I was thinking of using one or two Gossamer Gear pads, in addition to the bag in a hammock. I should also note that I'm on a strict budget, which is why I need the bag to pull double duty in a hammock and tent, so I can't afford a JRB quilt or anything.

I like the idea of the big agnes bags with a CCF pad inside, but they are at the top of my price range, and a little heavy.

    Any suggestions?

I think you should stick to your Big Agnes inclinations.

I've got some of their stuff and I've been extremely impressed and pleased.
Their customer service is also top-notch.

And even though I've got a good deal of money invested in my current Big Agnes rectangular bag and pads . . . I'm considering moving to a Big Agnes mummy bag and pad.

Check Campmor.com and Backcountry.com for deals on some Big Agnes stuff. The best deals are on older models that have been updated.

If I wasn't looking to go with DOWN on my next bag, I'd buy this Savery SL

    I second that motion.

I also own Big Anges. I was tempted to buy the BA Nuggest that's for sale one here. $100 isn't too bad.

I however prefer their inflated insulated air core pads. But that's just me. Just remember that while the bag above is a 45 degree bag, I personally prefer a bag to be in the warmer range. That way I can get 3/4 season use out of it, and just keep some clothes on while I sleep. As opposed to buying a bag for each season of the year. You can always put more clothing on, but you can only take off so much.

Yeah, on the ground, you CAN NOT beat the inflatable pads, IMO.
I've got the Big Agnes DualCore. And that's what I've been using in the hammock too.

This weekend, I'm going to give my old BA Two-track pad a go in the hammock. It wasn't as comfortable for me on the ground.

If you have time and skills to DIY, you can make a synthetic quilt for around $100:

from the budget point of view, you can't beat the Sportsman Guide Guidegear 50 degree bag. List price is around $30. Hammock Engineer removed the zipper and made a quilt. You should be able to search his posts to see it.

I hung with it in mid 40's with no problem. I carried a poncho liner as backup

Have you tried the BAP site? www.bwear.com they sell demo Big Agnes gear.

They have a Big Agnes Encampment 15° Long Left Hand for $107.

I use a lost ranger with a THERM-A-REST. This combo works just fine if you have to go to the ground or sleep in a shelter.
I trust everyone, it is the devil in side them i dont trust.
