Newly Designed HG 20 F Under Quilt

A while back I purchased a HG 20 F Phoenix Under Quilt and upon receiving it had a few questions, so I gave Adam a call and spoke with him for quite a while. A few days later he messaged me and asked me if I would be interested in him sending me a Phoenix UQ based on the design of his full length Incubator UQ to try out and compare to the one I already had, and then send one of them back. So, a couple of days ago I received the package, and as promised I wrote another initial review type review and attached a video to my blog. If you are interested in reading or viewing this, check it out on my blog:

Now my only problem will be to decide which one to keep and which one to send back, as they both have some very attractive options...

I would also like to thank Adam and Jenny for the awesome products that they have sent me as well as the time that Adam has taken to talk with me. I know that they both have to have busy schedules, but he took the time to talk with me, and to me that only makes their products that much better (as if they need it). Great customer service. And then of course, I want to say thanks to Adam for giving me the opportunity to compare both of these quilts.

Any issues with condensation where the quilt meets the hammock? I'm not sure if cuben breathes at all, so this seems like it would be a problem.

Thanks Raul. I see that your blog has kept you busy lately too...

I actually did not mean to make the video public until I had posted my review on my blog, but by the time I realized it was public, I just left it as is...

dukedante, so far there has been no condensation on the cuben fiber inside the UQ. The only place that it has shown up so far was on the underside of the UQ. I have experienced it on the first Phoenix which uses the 1.1 ripstop on the outside. The 1.1 did a great job of beading the water up, and from what I could tell, the down inside did not feel to have any clumps, or show any signs that there was moisture inside the down. Also, the condensation withdrew fairly quickly once the sun started to beam down towards the UQ.

Although limited, with my experience, I think that the 1.1 is a good choice to be used on the outside of an UQ since it will more than likely be exposed to the elements and highly likely to harbor condensation. Saying that, I am very curious to see if the SevenD will be as repellent...

Thanks for the video, I've been really interested in how the new UQ performs.

Hey EastCoastFeastCoast, thanks for the hammock! I have been really happy with it! I am about to head out with a book, lay back in the hammock and read... and yea, it is cool enough to warrant an UQ so the new UQ will be under me too...

Nah I knock out those articles in about an hour. 99% of my blogs have been based on past videos since I havent had a chance to actually hike or play with my new gear. I'm a fast typer to begin with.

Have fun with the UQ and I look forward to further progress reports!

Glad you like it! You've surely gotten more use out of it than I did. Was just a little too small for me and then the WBBB entered my life and... well... nuff said there haha!

    Raul,

I am looking forward to providing a more long term report!

    EastCoastFeastCoast,

I wouldn't mind getting a WBBB sometime, but it will not be anytime soon. I really do like the idea of the open hammock though. I made the Bug Sock to use with it, which makes it a pretty versatile hammock. Anyway, thanks again!
