    My First DIY Bridge

I got busy last night and this afternoon and made my first "experimental" bridge hammock starting with a pattern for the "cat cut" edges.

I really like my WBRR, but wanted to try one with a few minor mods...no "built in headrest" and a little wider in the middle so the edge and stitching wouldn't be as close to my arms.

I also wanted a no-net version and had to resist when they were on sale...kept telling myself I already had all the materials to make one.

The result used the WBRR body pattern widened at the head end by ~4" and in the middle by ~3.5". I did not widen the foot end.

Some construction details were taken from the Grizz Bridge videos. Most notably, the suspension triangle attachment method to hold the spreader bar ends.

The spreader bars are from my WBRR as I didn't want to cut the tubing I bought until I had tried it out. The amsteel suspension triangle dog bones are from the RR as well (as my RR now has Dynaglide dog bones).

I still have to figure out and install the end caps.

I'm very pleased with the results. The "headrest" is gone and the extra width in the middle moved the edges just enough.

Looks like excellent work. What size webbing did you use on the sides? Is the amsteel just larksheaded through the webbing to catch the spreaders? Looking forward to hearing more about your project.

Very clean design and work. That's a good-looking hammock!

    Very cool, thanks for sharing!

Mind posting/sharing the specific dimensions and any of the construction details? I'd love to give a DIY bridge a try and I love my WBRR but also find the middle a tiny bit narrower than I might otherwise prefer...

Thanks everyone. It was very comfortable during a short test hang.

The fabric is a 40D ACU from Magna Fabrics. The spreader bars pictured are from my WB Ridgerunner (for expediency), but will be replaced by similar .625" poles from Quest Outfitters. I have not cut them to length yet but wanted to give the hammock a try before dark.

The webbing is 1/2" rated at 1800 lbs. from Strapworks.com.

Yes, the amsteel has a fixed eye and is larks headed to a loop sewn in the end of the webbing. This is the way Grizz did it in the Grizz Bridge Videos sticky'd at the top of the DIY forum. (Edit)...Grizz shows it better in this video.

The fabric was cut as follows:
    -head end - 46"
    -foot end - 42"
    -length - 85"
-middle - the cat cuts are ~6.5" deep leaving the fabric at ~32.5". The pattern was layed out using the "hanging string" on cardboard method.

    IMG_3375 cropped (Medium).jpg

The webbing was sewn on, rolled over twice and sewn through two times as shown in the Grizz Bridge videos. The webbing ends have 4" folded back onto itself and bar tacked to leave 1" loops.

The head and foot ends just have a 3/8" roll hem, but need end caps added.
