    Let's Talk Tarp Stakes

What do you look for in a tarp stake? Strength, durability, ease of ground penetration, tie-off-ability, weight, cost, shape, other things?

What matters to you, and what have you gone with to fit your needs?

What problems do you have with your current stakes and what changes would you like made?

I think stakes are something we don't talk enough about since without them our might just flutter in the wind.

Most often I just use sticks I find and/or tie off to saplings and roots. Aluminum gutter nails work great as a cheap, light, strong, and ground penetrating option.

    MSR Groundhogs.
They're light enough and they work in a wide range of soil types.

    I have the V stakes.

I am about to replace them with 6.5inch shepherd hook stakes.

What I've found so far is that the hold on the shepherd hook stakes are enough for what I need, and mine are overkill. I care about weight a lot (bad knee, and everything helps). My V stakes are also from Amazon.com... and I think they're aluminum, not titanium (ripped off). If you aren't worried about weight... I'd just use a Ground Hog and be done with it.

all of the above....I like ENO's Easton stakes they pentetrate well with the press of a foot and they are light. I have had only one issue with the top of one coming off when pulling it out of the ground but a torch and a little 95/5 solder should fix that no problem.

There was a thread on it here with some good info.

I just got the Vargo Titanium stakes and really like them. I did have to paint the tops blaze orange so I wouldn't loose them.
