    My Think

For simplicity factor I'd go with one tarp fly and one Dutch clip fro the tarp. For the hammock I agree with Whoopies (assuming they have a bead) hooked to a tree hugger (double-eyed) with a load bearing Dutch Clip or even easier a large yet light full-load bearing carabiner such as the Metolius FS ($7). http://www.rei.com/product/792721/me...gate-carabiner To make things even easier color code the whoopie slings so that red=head and yellow=smell toe.

For simplicity, I'd go with the following:

    Hammock:

Webbing suspension ala Warbonnet. Easy to set up and adjust, with no parts to lose.

    Tarp:

Continuous ridgeline with a 'biner at one end and Prusiks or Klemheists for the attachment of the tarp to the ridgeline. (My reasoning: he's a scout and will have to learn the double slippery half-hitch at some point, and it's hard to get any quicker or simpler than that for adjustment of the ridgeline.)

For weight savings, I'd swap the webbing suspension out for the JRB all-in-one or something similar.

My 13 year old daughter has straps and rings on her hammock and can get set up and adjusted just fine and relatively quickly.

One afternoon recently she asked me if I could hang her hammock up for her so she could hang out for a while. I was elbow deep in fixing supper so I told her to give me a few minutes to finish what I was doing. a few minutes later I happened to look out the kitchen window and she was already set up and snoozin' ...

Randy I just have to say Cuute Cuute Cuute!

    What a little doll.

Now I forgot what the original question was.

I rather like tying the knots; in particular the quick-release taut-line-hitch knots for the stakes. It keeps me in practice and tying knots is a big thing in Scouts.

+1 on what Cannibal said. (So that's +2 for Rip!)

Straps/rings is dead simple. Everything's attached, there are no extra pieces to lose (tree straps, flyz, hooks, toggles) easy to remember for pre-teen & teenage boys who are easily distracted and have a tendency to lose their gear.

+1 for webbing. Dead simple, easy and quick. For tree protection I got AHE webbing for my tarp as well. Heavier? Yes. But now my tarp and hammock set up the same way. I save the knots for connecting the guy lines. Bowlines connect to the tarp D rings and tautlines for the adjustable loop around the stakes.

I asked Paul @ Arrowhead add some pockets to a bishop bag for the webbing. Hammock in the bag, webbing and stakes in the pockets on the outside of the bag. Keeps the hammock nice and clean!

Many great ideas. Thanks, everyone. I will reply when I have the suspension re-rigged.
