Ripstop shell over down throw

Has anyone thought of just sewing a ripstop shell over a down throw blanket for their UQ?
Found a cheap throw 50x60 and 7oz and thought about a mod to that?

Seems like you could get away with maybe just a bottom layer of ripstop that extends over the edge to create a channel for shockcord and just leave the top part the snuggy fuzzy side?

Or would that lead to potential condensation issues?

no reason not to do it. It will be heavier than a purpose made quilt and the fill is probably heavier. OTOH it will probably be significantly cheaper. I'm thinking less than a pound in weight penalty. I also think I would look at making the quilt removable so you could use the cover alone in warm weather.

Don't know much about "sateen", but I see the word cotton and big red flags go up for me.

Ripstop breathes so condensation shouldn't be an issue.

But why bother adding a layer of ripstop at all? Just make channels for the suspension and cinch bungies. That's what I did for my indoor UQ. http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...7&postcount=31

friend of mine has an IX UQ that she sometimes adds a down blanket/throw to. The down throw has a nylon cover (front and back). She only does this when we are "car camping" with the scouts because it's sort of heavy. It works very well.
I don't think I'd use a down throw that has a cotton cover on it, any humidy will sort of just go straight to it.

But if it's all you got... it should work pretty good (unless you get it wet).
