    Minicel Pad

Just ordered some 1/16" Minicel foam padding for use as a liner pad in my hammock. It's cheap and durable and weather-resistant with high warmth-weight ratio. Anyone use this in their hammock. I sleep in a 20* down bag and find my back gets cold when the temps drop to 40* or so. I'm hoping this will be a good solution w/o taking up too much space or weight. Also, I can use it as a ground cloth above the tree line.

    Any input or thoughts?

I use a TQ/UQ setup so I may not be able to answer your question completely, but I have some minicel foam that I fold up and put in my Jerry chair for a sit pad. I can unfold it for just my feet or if I'm pushing my gear limits I can open it up completely to cover my feet to mid-back. It does help the CBS if you need it to. It is also more comfortable than the thicker pad I tried before.
Folded up it replaces my support pad in my pack too. It is a cheap multi use item for sure.

When you get it, could you please weigh the roll and post it?

I'm using 1/8" CCF with a partial underquilt right now but the 1/8" I'm using is rather stiff. This sounds much more flexible and might be more comfortable, even if I use two layers for cooler weather.

Of course, in winter I have 3/8" pads.

Yes - I will post the weight.

Truth be told, I was hoping more people here would have an opinion on minicel. Guess I'm a trailblazer. Yuck! Yuck!

I also bought the 3 sheets of 1/16" minicel at the recomendation of Brandon. (Good insulation for the thickness) They were on Clearance but shipping a killer. Light, packable and if needed can be doubled.
On days when its 50-60 and windy, really beats getting out the UQ and taking the time to fine-tune. Just throw it in and lay on it. Or use it at the knee/feet area when using a 3/4 UQ. I would trade 1 sheet for some 1/8" minicel to compare but dbling works too.

Thanks Soundmanbob. I am a little concerned about the thickness but figured for the price ($8) it's worth a shot and like you said, can double it up if necessary. I hope to test it out at the end of the month.

I used a piece of the 1/16 between the layers of my blackbird. Once I got it positioned right (I cut it down to taper it for an ENO) it worked like a champ. Temp dropped to about 40 overnight with a mild breeze and my underside was nice and toasty.

Hmmm, 1/16" foam kept you "toasty" into the 40's???????

Were you sleeping in a 0*F synthetic bag? 1/16" of foam isn't much insulation.
