Greetings from the Olentangy/Scioto Interfluviate Ridge

I am an old backpack and climber and an intermittent hammock hanger. Being from the 70s, I am a fan of the late great Colin Fletcher. I used a small net hammock once in a while. I bought it from Wilderness Trace in 1976 (where I worked in HS) for $7.99. I recently picked up a light weight hammock at Sabo's in Columbus for use on my Sailboat (27' 1971 coronado docked on Catawba Island). I hang it between the mast and the forestay. Sleeping on a rocking boat in hammock is a real treat.

I make my living as an enviornmental geologist. I sometimes work in backpacking and climbing trips during my field studies. In spite of the pleasant title, my work is usually in very nasty environments - from abandoned inner city industrial sites to meth labs out in the country. I also travel by motorcycle when ever I can to study sites. Hammock camping is well suited to motorcycle travel as your as pressed for space as when backpacking.

I mostly do things alone - as my partners have all decided to get too old or too unfit to backpack or climb. I am hoping to meet some folks to pack with and make some friends. My kids are ready to fly the coup and the nest will be empty soon. So its time to start figuring out how to live like I did before kids.

Greetings to you from southern WV.

I have no idea what geological area I am in, but I recognized "Olentangy" and Scioto" as being from across the Ohio River!
