    Hang'em High

Where = Segments 4 & 5 of the Colorado Trail. Kenosha Pass to Bailey

    When = May 24 to 26.

Who = A couple of old guys, average birthdates are 6/30/40.

    First day = 10 miles
    Second day = 12 miles
    Third day = 8 miles.

The average snow pack in the drainage is about average now. The trail could be clear or have a couple of deep and icy places by Memorial Day. Going backwards lets those places be crossed early when the snow is solid.

The other guy is a ground dweller.

I will be carrying a kit good down to 20 degrees.

    e-mail if you are interested.

    max altitude

We will reach almost 11,000 ft. Camp both nights above 10,000ft.

Less than 2,000 ft. of climb on any day.

Difficulty will depend on snow pack. I will bail before it becomes epic.

Looks like it was a nice place to be, and looks like the snow was far enough gone that you could have a dry camp. Nice.

    Thumbs up conditions

Clear and 25 degrees the first night.

Rainy and 33 degrees the second night.

We postholed about 2 hours on the third day, but could have gone lower off trail if we wanted. It would have been much better if it had been colder the second night so we could have walked on the frozen crust.

I have hiked in the general area about a half dozen times on Memorial Day weekend. I have only seen more snow pack once before.

Only saw 3 other backpacking groups in three days.

Gear worked well, great company, good food.

Very jealous!! My buddy and I were on a bike ride, and when we rode past a row of pines, I just looked at him and said, "Man, I miss Colorado!" "I know!"

Are you all having pine beatle problems in that area? When I was through there a couple years ago, it was bad. I think we were northwest of you, though...

    pine beatles

I have heard that we will have NO lodgepole pines in a decade. No noticable damage in that area though.
