Sorry, couldn't pass that one up!

In the mid to late 80's I lived way out in the country. I remember my mom and dad talking about someone stealing gas from one of our cars several times. So my dad got the idea to tie the big nasty doberman to the bumper of the car that they had been stealing the gas out of. Well, no more gas got stolen from us after that. I would like to think that the person responsible for stealing the gas got chewed on for a while by that trusty dog.
Bummer! But glass is easy to fix, just annoying.
The scariest part of any hike where I drive myself is that last 300' or so before I can see the car. Up til then, I pretty much forget about it. So far, I havn't had anything stolen at a trailhead. But in 2 breakins of 2 different cars Ive had stolen: Radiator, radio, 8 track player (Yea, it was a LONG time ago) & my first in bag. Cops recovered the first in bag, & the radio didn't work Radiator cost me about $35.00 to replace & I never did replace the 8 track.
Thankfully, they didn't break anything getting in either car. Slim Jim on the 1st, & the 2nd was unlocked. I too often leave it all unlocked at the trailhead, as far as I know, no one has bothered anything,,, yet.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.
Dude, you are really dating yourself. Did they steal any 33 1/3 records, too?
8 track player (Yea, it was a LONG time ago)
Sorry to hear buddy. But definitely glad to hear they did not take your gear. I assume these types of things are happening more often with this recession - more people becoming desperate I suppose. I am always weary about my Sirius satellite radio clinging to my window. But I always take it down when I sense bad neighborhoods.

Heh, I had an eight-track player in my first car...in 2000...
More on-topic, I've been really lucky in that no one has seen fit to break into my car over the years. But, then again, I never leave anything worth anything in plain sight when leaving the car for more than an in-and-out at a gas station.
Glad to hear that none of your stuff went missing, Jsaults. And I hope that none of that safety glass finds its way anywhere important.
When I drove a Jeep Wrangler some idiot at my apartment complex would empty my ashtray every 6 mos or so. Maybe I was the idiot because I kept filling it with change!
