    Hello from Northern Ontario

    Hi all!

I've just recently returned to Canada after having lived in Japan the past three years. I've been hiking and tenting all my life and have been tent camping off of a motorcycle for the past few years as well. Upon my triumphant return to the great white north, a few buddies of mine talked me into getting a hammock to suit my solo camping needs. So I picked up a HH explorer and now I'm hooked. I've spent a few nights hanging on the coast of lake Superior, and while I was comfortable, I found out pretty quick that I had a lot to learn!

Been lurking around the forum ever since

Looking forward to learning with you

What part of Northern Ontario are you from? I grew up on Sault Ste. Marie but it's been quite a few years since I lived there.

Once you have a comfortable hammock fitting it with a good Under quilt and good tarp to block the wind and rain solves allot of problems. Going from Japan to northern ontario must have been a bit of a shock.

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

Debi, I was out for a weekend with my dad (he in his VW camper and me in the hammock) at Agawa Bay pp. The trails in the area are lovely!!

Bill - anata no nihongo ha jozu desune :P Indeed returning has been a shock, which only a significant amount of camping can fix!! I'm looking to do a DIY tarp, something that could be rigged to cover myself and my bike in the warmer months and to peg down tight during the snowy months. An UQ might be a bit beyond my diy capabilities at the moment, but I just got my grubby little hands on a retired, but unused, down CF sleeping bag that I intend to modify to the task. I'm sure someone else here has done it, so if you want to point me in the right direction, I'll be sure to post pics when it happens

I'm in the nickel city at the moment, Sudbury, but will most likely be on the move in the next month or two as I'm currently an unemployed schmuck in the market to become a plain ol schmuck once again.

(this means more time for camping... right?)
