That one usually impacts my departure time from camp more often than not. Nothing like starting your next day's hike at 11:00.

But if you first cleared out the back 40 we could hang there and watch you build the forge.

First things first. Gotta get the forge built so some tools can be fashioned to clear the back 40 to make the campsite. Then the hanging can begin.

Group hang at the forge inauguration?

Sounds like a great idea. But hopefully the forge will be done and going well before then. We'll have to inaugurate something else.

If the truth must be told, the list is mine, not hers. The rain this week altered the schedule for helping a friend with an outdoor project, so that rearranged the school schd, which rearranged my schd to work on building my blacksmith forge. The forge ended up not getting any attention at all. So that leaves me with REALLY wanting to get my forge finished so I can start making cool stuff.

Maybe you can whip up a cast iron UQ for your next hang!
Drop it in the coals before bed then hang it up for a new "brand" of sleeping.

Sorry you can't make it. I am up for a trip to BSF just about anytime you want to go.

I wish this problem would only last a weekend but it has probably cancelled any hiking for us for about 2 months.

If you're familiar enough with the route, I'm game to go ahead. It's been about five years since I've been on that trail, so I'd prefer to avoid arriving at Yahoo Falls some time in January. I'll try to make some speed on the trail so that you're not waiting around forever. With any luck, I can meet you at the first campsite between 16:30 and 17:00.

It has been a few years since I have been on that section also. I will go with your call. I hiked the Grand Gap Loop and a short section of the JMT last year. The trails where pretty good on that section. The leaves are down so it will be a little harder for sure.

By the way, what's the water supply like on the first couple of days?

it must be awesome up there at this very minute !!!
best time to hike is after a heavy rain or snowfall.
if i weren't heading up there this afternoon, i'd already be in the Smokies hiking along a creek trail.

The only place I am not sure about water would be between Grand Gap and the river. Looks like a couple small no name creeks on map. I plan on going light then filling up at the Fall Branch campsite where we are meeting. Once we drop back down to the river on Saturday there will be no problems along Laurel Fork Creek.
