    Deluxe or Expedition?

I'm roughly 6'3" and weigh about 260lbs. I know the deluxe is probably better for a guy my size, but it's $200 and I can get the expedition for $79 with the sale going on right now.... Is the deluxe that much better for a guy my size?

Here is the sale list as of 11/10 for explorer deluxe I realize these are botom entry but they are the bigger size and would work better IMHO for a guy your height and at your weight (me too) the expedition will not work. The expeditions top out around 250. I just picked up one of these that was a demo and I can't tell if it had ever even been used. Great stuff

    Explorer Deluxe Asym Classic
    EXRDXC201 - Explorer Deluxe Asym Classic $139 – demo
    EXRDXC202 - Explorer Deluxe Asym Classic $129 – demo w/repair side
    seam
EXRDXC203 - Explorer Deluxe Asym Classic $129 – visual, not structural
    flw in ripstop
    EXRDXC204 - Explorer Deluxe Asym Classic $139 – demo
EXRDXC205 - Explorer Deluxe Asym Classic $119 – silnylon rain fly,
needs some seam seal touch up, 5” repair to hammock body

Welcome to the forum and the addiction hope this helps.

Thanks huauqui! I looked at the list before posting this and I didn't see any of the deluxes on there.... not sure how I missed it! So you think the extra $60 or so is worth it for me? sort of on a tight budget...

Get the Explorer. Think long term investment - you'll never "shrink into it". It is never a deal if the item does not fit you.

well I think you've talked me into the deluxe... I was thinking that maybe I'd get the expedition this year and then next october hopefully get the deluxe for me and give my wife the expedition.... hopefully they still have some on Monday! Really excited to have found this forum!

I have the deluxe (6' tall) and the spouse has the expedition (5'8" on a good day). I've tried out the expedition and it was snug for me and you've got 3" on me so I'd say it's definitely worth the extra money.

I have both and the deluxe is the one that gets used the most...
I am only 5'9" 185lb but I really like the extra room in the deluxe.

I bought the explorer deluxe asym and have never regretted it. Get a hammock that is 50 to 75 or more over your weight. It is easy to up size by purchasing a larger hammock but hard to downsize your body. Even if you did loose weight the larger hammock is still worth the price. I have had mine for 7 years and it still works great. Get the larger tarp and snake skins if offered. Worth it. Add a line level to keep it level or the head a little down to keep the velcro from opening in bug season.

I would hate for you to get the expedition and be uncomfortable or worse have a failure of some sort and then wish you hadn't spent any money. I know the Explorer will work for you! I am a bit skeptical of the expedition. The extra length is a big thing plus I think you would have to replace the suspension, due to weight, before you could safely use the expedition at least more then just casually.

You can call and ask if those I listed are still available or if they have something else they have added. The last email I got from them indicated they were going to have more added shortly. There are some great people that work at Hennessy and they will help you if they can. A safari would work really well too but they are harder (not impossible) to add heavy insulation to later and weigh a bit more. I think there were three Safari's on the list that still had bug screen and tarps along with a bunch of just open no net no tarp models for 49.00 which is a killer deal. Add a hex fly for 49 from the list and you would have a great kit (without bug screen).

Sorry if I am just adding more options.
