I’d like to report that I spent last night in a hammock created by me (thanks to Jeff at www.tothewods.net). I suspended with tree straps and slip cord made of 3/16 Amsteel Blue. Boy, I love that stuff! Did a sort of whoppie thing like the one Slobro did in “Whoopie Sling Suspension" article on this site. Works great with toggles on the straps. It was around 40 degrees F out last night, but I used a rectangular poly fill sleeping bag on the bottom and a zero degree down bag as a topper and I actually got too hot in that rigging. Only problem I had was I was only about 5 inches from the ground in the hammock, but soooo comfortable, then I got up and raised the hammock to about 15 inches. That totally erased the comfort and became very cramping. Nothing like going thru that to make you realize how importance of getting the right arc, line angle, etc . Thanks to all the super posts on how to get started. My wife, daughter and I had the camping trailer set up at Riffe Lake in WA state. We had the furnace going when I told my wife I was going to try out the new hammock. She said I was nuts and would freeze to death. I may be nuts, but I didn’t freeze to death. lol
