hiyas. i was on youtube watching vids of the superior hiking trail that i plan hiking with my sons and, lo and behold, came upon a shug vid. after thinking this guy is crazy, i came to realize the genius behind the madness. lol hence my new, outrageous obsession with the hammock camping.
i've got a lot of questions. it'll take a while to figure out my rigging and something that feels comfortable. i bought a eno doublenest, made my own straps, using an old rainfly as a tarp. up here in mn its normally raining, humid or snow. i don't use down because i can never seem to keep it dry and up here, wet means dead. i have a mountain hardwear 3/4 pad, a thermarest 1" and one of those nice space blankets. gonna test those before i go to a synthetic uq.
today, i am making my sons's hammocks. i like the gathered end hammock but wonder of a few mods you guys might talk me out of. i was wondering what would happen if you hung it from a loop of the rope used to cinch it. also thinking of running a continuous rope through the two long channels which would have a loop that would snap into the carabiner that my cinching loops would snap into. my theory is that this would help with the sag of the sides based on where and how i make the knots. get it? like one tight side and one loose side would basically make it a hanging couch. two tight sides might actually close it up over the top. what do you guys think?
