Hi
No the wood stayed connected to the webbing ok and did not side toward the hammock or away. It swung on the webbing and went from straight up to 90 degrees left to 90 degrees right.
So the wood would () swing about left to right on the weight of my daughter in the hammock.

From the picture, it looks like you don't have any side support at all. Normally, the side support supplied by attaching to one tree is enough to keep the hammock centered. That support is maybe only a few inches wide, but enough to keep things in line. In your case, you used the pole on the tree side. If, I think, you attach to the tree normally and use the pole on the car side you might be OK. Or, attach to the car from two points on the tire a foot or so apart.
Hi
idiot me
If I have my car with the spare tyre up high, and I have one tree, why do I need a pole at all. I can tie off the tree as normal and attach to the spare wheel and all will be good

Gunn Parker...I had thought you were just using the tree to emulate that end of the rope being staked into the ground, that way you wouldn't need the tree at all just your truck, chunk 'o' wood, and a giant corkscrew... just my POVIf I have my car with the spare tyre up high, and I have one tree, why do I need a pole at all.

Ya know, that "T" bar bed extender would make a great support for a Bridge Hammock...
