Couldn't resist the call of the Cuben

Ordered a Cuben 4 season tarp, I hope it gets here soon! This'll cut ~11 oz from my pack and add doors to my setup, win win (other than my also lighter wallet).

I think this UL thing is a decease which I hope I never catch as one of the known side effects is EmptyPocketsSyndrome

However 11oz savings is pretty good.

I agree, cuben is dang near irresistible once you've handled it a couple of times. In my mind, I poo-pooed it a couple of years back. Been a very long time since I was that wrong...well, unless you ask my girlfriend.

having used C for 4 or so years from every thing from a gathered Hammock , a bridge, Ham., sacks, packs, water carriers, air conditioners, lite wgt TVs (OK so I lied about the last 2!! ) I don't think I have exhausted the possibilities yet!#$^%$^& ,, so-- I have spent my children's inheritance, so what? let them get their own hammock!! gnome

I scratched the same itch a week or two ago, still waiting for the selling, errr... "swelling" to go down.

That weight savings was just too attractive.

what makes a tarp 4 season rather then 3 season. i never figured that out as all of mine have been to single digits.

Enjoy it. I know that it's just a matter of time for me. The only thing slowing me down is that I now have a spinn tarp so the weight savings isn't as great compared to going from a silnylon tarp.

I would also know if there is some defining factor that distinguishes tarps as 3 or 4-season

I look at it as how much coverage the tarp has. more coverage & doors = 4 season tarp. someone correct me if I am wrong?

Longevity.
I've got one cuben tarp that has now seen many more nights than one in SpinnUL which is no longer available I've read. So far and this is roughly a total of 50 nights on this cuben tarp all is well wheras in my spinnUL I found spontaneous holes where I knew of no traumatic event and far less useage.
So this to say that just maybe cuben will stand the test of time which should be a good thing for those on the fence over the added expense.
