tarp side pull outs

Help me out here on some decisions, I recently picked up a mamajamba and trying to figure out how to configure the pulled outs. What are people doing, single line centered on a shock cord strung between the pull outs? Two separate lines? What length cords for the pull outs are people use etc?

If there is already a thread can you post it?

Hi Bloomgorge,

I used 3 zing it lines, all with fixed loops on both ends. I larkshead the lines onto the pullouts, bring together the two, and larkshead the 3rd thru those ends. I think the two attached to the tarp are 6ft, the 3rd is about 8ft. Gives me the ability to stretch this out over my hiking pole, and is also removable and useful to create extensions for my bottom tie outs in case I want to go to porch mode.

When I did have side pulls I tried about 10 feet per pull out. I figured 10 foot would be long enough to get a fairly horizontal pull if staked to the ground as well as long enough to attach to any trees or branches that were conveniently located.

I did modify them into ones that were each about 6 foot of shock cord attached to 4 feet of Zing-it. I found the Zing-it made it easier to tie a rolling hitch to a stake or tree to adjust length and tension.

I also tried tying about each end of an 8 foot length of shock cord to both the pull outs on one side and then tied about 6 feet of Zing-it to the middle of the shock cord creating a Y similar to Callahan. This cut down on the cordage and stakes per side.

It depends on what is around me when I pick a camp,,if tree limbs or bushes are close by,,then tie to them,,2 lines,,,if not,, then 2 lines to hiking pole and one from it staked down,,I carry extra line for the needs at the time.

Detachable?

I saw you can get little things that clip onto the tarp, but I have also seen people (including shug) sew on their pull outs.

I am debating putting these on my tarp. I am paranoid about sewing directly into the side. I fear some leakage!

I carry 4 pieces of elastic cord in my tarp bag. One for each of my tie outs. Have a loop on one end to girth hitch onto the tie out loop. I can usually find a tree limb or twig to attach them to.

yeah i was thinking about using mitten hooks to allow me to remove the lines from the pull outs if i want.

i'm thinking i want something that's removable as well that i can just toss to the bottom of my bag in the event i want one side or both sides pulled out

thanks for the video,...you had some nice ideas in there. i havent been using prusiks from the shock cord to side pull outs but i can see the advantages.
