    bridge hammock poles

All right heres the question. Has anyone used carbon fiber poles on their bridge hammock? My thought originally was to use my hiking poles but I would then need to insert wooden dowels into the poles. So as far as weight goes I'll just bring the pole for the bridge hammock vs. the dowels. Carbon fiber is half the weight but can they take the force the bridge creates on the ends of the pole. If you have done this and it worked where can I get the tubes and ends that fit? I'm using .625" OD aluminum with an ID of .544" from Quest Outfitters. if I could repurpose the endtips at .544" that would be great. I would need a 62" length or 37" and a 25" carbon tube. Thanks Ye'all

You lost me at wooden dowels? Why would you need to insert them?

Ever heard of a Venus Fly trap? I imagine that is what one might feel like if your spreader poles collapse. To my understanding, but have no experience with this, the dowels are used to secure the poles at a specific length.

Mmm never heard of modifying the poles I guess.
I think good poles would probably be fine on there own.

The wooden dowel goes inside the trekking pole to make a positive stop when the pole is under compression from the suspension triangle. This prevents damages to whatever style locks your poles have. I use the TiGoat carbon fiber poles on my bridge. 3.5 oz each and are used as my hiking poles

Here is a link to BER's diy bridge. He used carbon fiber poles and give all the info for them

Thanks Swingblade and Hangnout for answering that question in my absents. Thanks for the link to Ber's DIY bridge. I have looked at the CF web site, I'm having the same problem as Ber nothing really fits together with the endtips. Anyone else have any feed back on what worked for them. I am a bit heaver than Ber I'm 230 lbs. I have snapped an aluminum .433 pole so a little nervous using what Ber used.

as for wooden dowel in poles most poles do need them for what hangnout has stated ... i know of a few members that have broke hiking poles cause there was no Dowel in them not fun ... i think grizz was one of them if i remember maybe he will chime in

I use my ti goat adjustable hiking stix as my bridge spreaders, carbon fiber, no dowels, the foot end one is collapsed as much as it can, the head spreader has a short carbon extender on it, no extra wgt, seems to be working OK, gnome

I tried my Black Diamond poles and they just slowly collapsed shut (Venus Flytrap) so I would need the dowel. The CF poles I have been looking at look a little thin in diameter scary.
