I have a HH Expedition and I want to make a 4 season tarp with doors. I have a 7 and a 6 yrd (~58" wide) piece of 70d PU coated. What is a good design and size for this tarp? Any tips on sewing this material?

I am in the process of making a tarp for a friend. I an making the winter dream. I think this will plenty big enough for all your outdoor fun.

The Winter Dream is a great design. You can also simplify it by eliminating the catenary curves and just cut it straight.

yea cat cuts are great but if you stake out your rectangular tarp right then its just fine i make a 12x11 turtle tarp and it pulls tight jsut fine and you can set it up as a hex also if you want to take a look at the pics just look in my album they are in there good luck and if you have any ?s just let me know
If you use tarp tensioners it really helps when you don't make the curved cuts. A 12X11 tarp is huge and gives lots of room. I like that green tarp.
I like big hammocks - I cannot like.
Can anyone tell me what the weight would be if I made the 12x10 tarp out of 70d vs 30d?
Do you think 12x10 is too big for a HH Exped. Can I make the tarp smaller and still have the doors and good coverage?
You could make it smaller and still have doors. You could always make a minimal tarp with add on doors. Leave the doors home when not needed.

70d is heavier and thicker compared to 30d. Which is better for a tarp? Is one better than the other...in heavy rain or snow?
Go with 30D to keep the weight down. Properly waterproofed with silicone there should be no problem with heavy rain. According to my calculations a 12x10 tarp is 13.3 square yards. So 1.1oz 30D would weigh 14.6oz and 1.9oz 70D would be 24.3oz, before silicone and not accounting for edging, reinforcements, etc. I found that DIY sil increased the weight by 40%.

I am getting the material from OWARE. They are seconds and he said the 70D is PU coated and the 30D is waterproof. Is 30D normally not waterproof?
