    Velcro for tarp doors

I know I have seen this done on tarps before, I just want to know the best way to attach the velcro. Instead of staking off the doors overlapping each other, I want to add velcro strips along the edge of the tarp so I can just clost them up and use one stake at the bottom. Would the adhesive back work or should they be sewed? Does anyone have any pictures?

    tarp velcro response

it is not very hard to sew them on...and at least you would have peace of mind. I think the adhesive would work for awhile, but not for an extended period of time as it gets compressed and stuffed etc.... my $.02

possible but it would take a while. or you could just run it by a tailor shop if you dont have a thread injector of your own. it shouldn't be more than about $20 for them to sew them on both sides. that is how i did my DIY hammock. i don't have a machine so i just had them put a simple stitch around it...$25.

Sticky backed velcro won't stick for long on nylon, less on sil. Also, if you are going to sew velcro, don't use sticky backed as it will gum up the needle badly. It is best to sew non-adhesive backed velcro onto tarp material... unless it is made of cuben, and maybe spinn, which is taped with special adhesive tape.
