Rotary Tool and Cutting Mat Recommendations?

Is there any diy version of a cutting mat? Used to have an Olfa but theirs are so expensive! Fiskars is lots cheaper I think...

I don't even have a rotary cutter but am thinking about it.

    What size is most versatile?

I use a Dritz 45mm rotary cutter that I got at JoAnns.

The cutting board prices took my breath away!
So, I ordered this from US Plastics and it has worked out great!
I use a 2' by 4' and 1/8" thick because I lay it on a bed and cut.
If you use a table top, then you can go with 1/16" thick.

Even the shipping was surprisingly inexpensive considering the size.

    Yikes, is that price right?!

MAD77, are you sure that link is to the same stuff you have? The 1/8" x 24" x 48" PTFE Sheet is listed at a whopping $424.37! The 1/32" x 24" x 48" PTFE Sheet is "only" $106.11

JoAnn's website currently has rotary cutting tools and mats on sale 40% off.

No problem, I could use a little alphabet soup most days. BTW I know these sheets hold up very well. A quilt maker I know has cut out a lot of quilts on one with no problems. It is 48"x96"x1/16" on a table.

    Excellent! Thanks!

With that news I can probably afford more than one size cutter!

Also check out this thread. If you click on the link to the video, the video has moved but is below the current one, its titled Tips for cutting Fiberglass cloth, and is dated FEB 10 2010, about 1/2 way thru the vide they talk about the FRP. I never did personally try the FRP, mostly b/c I don't have a vehicle the stuff will fit in to get it from the store to the house.
