good intentions and the road to hell

well, yesterday and today is a mark on my history of preparedness.

i had court most of the morning. pretty much an intense day, including several days preparation. but, i was ready to get to the woods, so i tell my boy "son, saddle up the hammocks, we're heading out for a night".

i get ready for court, and in the brain-drain, i only half it with the camping prep. get court done then head to the ouachita mountains in western arkansas. get there at shady lake just before dark, hang the gear, then start looking to stay warm.

forgot the uq's. no bother though, as i had some sleeping bags in the car for other purposes so an easy rig.

    nope - forgot them too.

determined to hang outside we layered up with all we had and promptly froze the family jewels for two generations. this morning we loaded up and promptly got the hell out of dodge.

my feet haven't yet returned to living temperature.

    cheers,

    sv-

Sounds like a rough night. Glad you didn't freeze to death.

Couldn't have been too bad, he didn't go to ground to stay warm.

Course, when you wake up and your calves and feet are frozen together, it's hard to get out of the hammock till the sun has defrosted them a bit.

Sorry to hear about Court. Happy to hear about camping.

Even the worst night out there is still a night out there. And if nothing else a great story gives you many laughs for decades.

    Stay *cough* warm
When it seems like the night will last forever
And there's nothing left to do but count the years
When the strings of my heart start to sever
And stones fall from my eyes instead of tears
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And dream me a dream of my own
