Smile My first true 2 day hang.

Well I'm on the way home from my first real hang. I have an ENO Doublenest and I rigged up a sleeping bag as an under quilt and added a structural rigeline from some rope and had a $4 Academy camo tarp as a rainfly. Boy did it rain! But I was warm and dry the whole time. I'm going to have to do this more. This was awesome! I used these ropes with toggles in them to hang the hammock to the tree. I got them at Academy for $15 in their hammock section and I didn't have high hopes for em but they worked well with no stretching. I think my next move is to get a Warbonnet Blackbird, a real nice lightweight rainfly and a good under quilt. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good cheap rainfly or under quilt? I'm under the understanding that the BB is better than the Doublenest and I can lay a little flatter with the footbox. But I'd like to keep the ENO for if I have a guest or something. What do you guys think? Is this a good plan? I'm open for suggestion. Thanks,

    Travis.

hi cog, and welcome. keep the eno, i have been using my eno for now 11 yrs.. all i did was to switch out the stock ropes in the channel and the caribiners for lighter suspension. aded polyester straps to go around the tree.

lots to learn here, so read up! and ask questions!!

Glad to hear your hang went well. Just for curiosity sake, were you putting ropes around the trees or did you use tree straps? The reason i even ask is that using rope on a tree can damage trees, and the prefered and most accepted method is to use tree straps.

I would say stick with the hamock you have for awhile if it was comfortable. The thing i would change in your setup first is the tarp, while the cheap ones work just fine, they dont last very long typically, and are heavier. Strong winds or gusts can very easily rip the grommets out of those tarps (this happened to me on my first hang in a T-storm, i bought a superfly tarp and couldnt be happier)

    Pics or it didn't happen!

Actually I didn't know that! I didn't think ropes would have any affect on trees for one or two nights. That's good to know. I have webbing from rock climbing but I used my hammock mounting ropes because they're so small and easy to carry.

OH and here are some pictures.
