    Snow report

I'm in Eagle River, and we probably have 6+in. on the ground, but it's been
40+ deg. the last two days. They are talking very cold temperatures for this weekend, with overnight lows near zero, so bring lots of warm clothes.

I would say there is plenty of snow for a pulk. I grouse hunted last weekend, and there was almost enough snow to justify snowshoes.

I think i'm going to bring along some ice fishing gear too. Does everyone know how to get to this place. I am leaving around 8am tomorrow (Thursday morning) so I will not be able to respond to last minute posts. The parking lot is very small and sort of hidden, it only holds I think 12-13 cars. When you park at the trail head you will see an outhouse and there is a map showing the trails in the area. Eds lake is less than a mile hike in and there are lots of good places to hang. You can reach me at 262-242-2757 but I am not sure how good the reception will be. Due to the winter storm heading our way I would encourage bringing extra gear even if it's left in the car just in case. I will be bringing a very large aluminum 2 gallon pot for melting snow that I can share with everyone. Cheese curds and bacon are welcome. If anyone will also be attending the Gift of the woods show with Shug in Wausau and still needs tickets or a place to hang you can contact FatDaddy for more info or see thread http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ght=gift+woods

Due to work, it looks like I'm stuck and can't leave for this weekend. I'm super pissed considering all the snow that's supposed to be coming in this weekend...I was hoping to try out my new snowshoes...

So count me out for this one guys. (Sigh)

I am leaving for the woods in 15 minutes and will not be home for a week so yes I will most definitely be there Saturday. You will see my red van in the parking lot with a Hammock Forums sticker on the back. See you all soon.

Cryothewild did make it out to the planned meeting spot and will be hiking out to the camping spot this afternoon. There is a cross country ski path being flattened out in the area so hikers are asked to stay to the side of the trail to avoid making bumps and dips for the ski teams. Phone signal is in and out but if you have questions you can call his cell- 1-262-242-2757 . He's good about calling back if he can't pick up when you call. Thanks and HAppy Hanging !

Got up to NNF okay on Thursday. It was 20 below with wind chill last night. Today, there was an incident and had to drive someone back into town. Everything is back on track now. I am on my way back to the emergency shelter. This is where I will meet people when they arrive (By Ed's Lake). There is a picnic table and fire pit there. See everyone out there soon!

Just got back from a short trip. I am not prepared for winter camping in a hammock

I had a tough trip as I am not in shape enough to walk the trails with an over loaded pulk.

Now to COTW, this guy is an amazing person! Very knowledge and strong as an ox.

Not only did he help me get back my car, I couldn't do it, he also had another guy the day before as he had to pull that guys gear out too.

I hope someone else showed up to make his time worth it.

I was 5 degrees when I woke up this morning. COTW got a fire going.

The site was on a cross country skiing trail. It was not used much as it was hard to pull an overloaded pulk

It was a beautiful area and the previous snow was not an issue driving in from Madison

I will definitely do this again but I really have to get in better shape and get better equipment.

Thanks for posting , was wondering how you guys were doing out there with those temps. COTW is helping me with advise on clothing and hammock gear getting me ready for hanging in a month or so up there in the cold. He really is an awesome and talented guy, anyone that goes camping with him will be in good hands.
