an idea...not practical, not easy, not smart...but cool!

has anyone ever made or had the crazy idea to have an outragiously high hanging hammock?...just because?

i was thinking it would be cool to have two pulleys really high (like 50ft) on two trees...you would get in, and then start to pull the two ropes and rais up up the 50 feet. tie off the ropes somehow and sleep overlooking everything...

yes i am very bored, but i thought it would be cool...near impossible to do, and completely pointless...but i would be neat!

Already been done. There is a thread here somewhere, that links to a thread on White Blaze, where some adventurous hangers were like 80-100 feet up in a tree.

I always see pictures of rock climbers that have their tents hanging on the sheer face of a cliff. I would think hammock might be a better option for something like that.

I think it's one of those Darwinian things. If you can figure out how safely nest 100 feet up in the trees then you get to remain in the gene pool. You can also remain in the gene pool if you are wise enough not to try.

Now there's some stealth camping for you. If your 100 ft up in the air, who's going to notice you there? I guess that you wouldn't have to worry about bear bagging---just haul the food up with you

Climbing gear or maybe some sort of block and tackle system. I can't remember exactly. Maybe someone can find the thread in question.

Some pictures of climbers utilitizing Tree Boats

I've searched all over for the thread of the 100ft hammock hang, then I stopped and searched some more...to no avail.

One of the music festivals around here always draws lots of hammockers but the camping area is mosly field and scrub locust trees except for one big wide-branching tree. Seems every availible limb-span always gets used all the way to the top, 60 or so feet up. Pretty cool to see a dozen or so hammocks in one tree.

    here's a start

This may be the ideal hammock to do it from:

    http://www.mosquitohammock.com/bathammock.html

It has a single point to hang from and fixing a pully system or something to it might not be too difficult.
