    Cool Newbie From Tennessee

    Hello,

Computer programmer by trade. Never sewed in my life and I am 50 years old. Well I go hiking alot when I can and wanted some new gear in a-tacs fg and kryptek camo. I was able to get pants and shirts but the pouches and items I wear on my belt I could not get in these new camo. So I thought well like everything else in my life if you want something do it yourself.

So I bought this machine for 1k or so off ebay
Tacsew T111-155 Walking Foot Machine with Servo Motor

Took me 9 hour to put it together. Came with a video and the guy has been great who i bought it from SewingGold dot com.

So I have the machine and now I am teaching myself to make my own gear how I want it. Plus when you make yourself it feels good.

Any how seen a video on Utube thought I might sign up and see if I can learn from here.

I will be doing more reading then posting right now. Being I am so new. But when I get better I will make some videos.

My last year and half project was building a tornado shelter / bunker which I have made step by step video. I never did this before either. I just watched alot of videos and figured what I needed. One room is my computer room where my new sewing machine is.

    Wow, pretty neat bunker.

I just checked out those camo paterns. I have seen the a-tacs before but didn't know the name and I had never even see the other. I think I like the a-tacs better, not much desert or dry brushy look around here.

It would be pretty cool to have some backpacking gear in those patterns though.

Looks like you bought yourself one heck of a thread injector (term used around here for a manly name for sewing machine I think)! I can't wait to see the gear you post. Myself I'm about to take on sewing my own hammock/tarp/tree straps and then after that an underquilt and top quilt, then a pack! Maybe I'm just dreaming???

    Anyhow welcome to the forum!

I never thought it would ever get done. Through out the year while I built it I came close a few times to filling it in for what it cost. Wife sells Pomeranian dogs and had 9 of them. So if a tornado hit you have like 5 10 min. She would chase her dogs and end up dead. So I went with this idea so the night before when we get possible warnings we can just take a time and relax inside and now the she can take her time. 1 room is computer room and my guns and my new sewing machine. The other room will be a king size bed we will be moving the bedroom into it.

Atacs -FG is the green which is also hard to find or very expensive when you do. kryptek is apparently in the running for the new USA camo they have not made a choice yet. Its between kryptek and 3 other big companies. kryptek being the little guy. I bought some kryptek off ebay 5 yards should be in this week to have a look at it and how well it actually blends.

I don't think your just dreaming. Little by little its a cinch. yard by yard its to hard. I taught myself to program and now do very well with it. I employ 2 people I hand taught them. Who knows maybe in time a gear web site site will come some day.
