Modify Hammock Bliss to double bottom

Hello! I havent been here in awhile... I do have a question for all the DIY people out there.

I have a Hammock Bliss mosquito bliss. I am wondering if it would be possible to modify it into a double bottom hammock. I am imagining sewing some ripstop to the side of the hammock with out the netting.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Not sure if the same is true with a Bliss, but in my Byer Moskito Traveler if I hang it upside-down (netting on bottom) the netting conforms to the hammock, doesn't hang down, and acts like a double bottom to hold a pad in place. I figure if its cold enough to need a pad the bugs shouldn't be too bad.

There's no reason why it shouldn't work. If I were doing it, I would sew it on both sides and on one end, leaving only one remaining end to insert the pad. That would make for a real secure fit. You may even consider placing a strip of velcro on the open end to really seal it up. The Claytor hammocks are open on the side. When you get in the hammock the material bunches up at times. It's a minor thing but can be annoying. Sewing the sides would completely eliminate the problem even if you chose to leave both ends open.

The end(s) will just drop and the second layer will not be held up against the first layer if you leave them 'open'... think about how underquilts are vented.

I havent tried using the netting as a double bottom. That might work in colder weather... I am hoping to take my hammock system to the Wind River Range this summer. I lead a trip there every summer and it can get chilly at night with bugs! Having the option of inserting a pad and using the bug netting are really what I am going for.

It's an interesting idea to make a double bottom hammock using noseeum netting as the bottom layer holding the pad.

I think you could sew a Risk Zhammock and use netting instead of the second layer of nylon... I'd have to see how much of a weight difference that would be...

I haven't searched yet on this site yet to see if someone has done it.
