What are the loops for?

So I just bought/received the 20f Incubator from another forum member. This is the new design with the left shelf "mod"

All along the UQ (about every 8 inches or so) are grossgrain loops that run along the top of the linear channels. I inquired from the original owner what they were for, and he said he was wondering the same thing...so what the heck are the loops for there Mr. Stormcrow..or anybody else that knows.

either to secure the quilt to a hmmk tieout - a la HH

or

i've attached schockcord to 'em and ran it up over my ridgeline, connected to the other side. helps to support the middle of the quilt and further prevent any CBS.

*after further review.. i quit using them and just raked down on the quilt suspension to get a nice fit on the hmmk.

I use them to bundle everthing like a cocoon. Then I stuff it all in a syl drysack or my backpack. There are probably many uses for them.

That's true, grosgrain loops have a hundred and one uses. Only Stormcrow and Thorwren knows the original intent on them, but lets not bother them right now. They are hard at work making my 0 degree Incubator.

Must be a new addition. My Phoenix only has 4 loops, 2 on either end.

They are there to help raise the UQ should there be a gap, either because of the design of the hammock (as there are sooo many different ones, including custom (DIY)), or because of just sag in the quilt! You tie some shockcord to the loops and put it over the ridgeline to give a lift to the quilt!

These aren't on every quilt, primarily on incubators, because of the length of the quilt!

I may be WAY wrong on this though, JMO!

This UQ is looking better and better. It now seems to be just about perfectly designed for my WBBB. With the net furled down and the extra loops availabe, I foresee a real snug hang. Now, where do I come up with the cabbage???

I have just started using the loops on my JrB Winter Nest with a shock-cord over the ridge-line and it improves the fit about 1000x, and I feel like a complete idiot for not doing it sooner.

I was out "relaxing" in the yard with my incubator the other day, and for the first time, noticed the loops myself. Thanks for asking about them, as I was wondering also.

This is exactly why I got it...for my WBBB. I was told by the previous owner that he felt that Stormcrow actually used a WBBB as a model to build the UQ. It fit his perfectly.

Maybe I will bring some shock cord with me when I head out on Sunday for an overnighter, and give it a whirl...But I think I will try it in its "natural" state the first time around.

Soon my 0F JRB ORM will be here, and so will my custom made winter sock....bring on the cold
