In the interest of keeping the community vibe, it'd be nice to keep this to everyone staying at the same site/closeby (if you feel like staying at a further site, feel free; just trying to keep things centrally located to keep this in the nature of a "group hang". Folks being able to socialize, look at others' setups, etc. is what these kinda things are all about).

Site 9 looks like it can accommodate plenty of hangers

and looks like it's .25 miles or less hike in

I've got a message in with the forest service to ask some more general questions.

I agree and also keep in mind the terrain between these sites does not lend itself to walking back and forth between the sites.
In other words, the best way between Site 8 and Site 9 is to hike all the way back to the parking area.

This looks like a gorgeous area and sounds like a lot of fun. I'm a tentative.

    I am tenative as well.

Depends: (no, not THOSE Depends!) Waiting arrival of new UQ, forecast temps (may be able to augment my 3-S UQ), my Dad's health, etc.

But I really want to meet some HF'ers face-to face, and I have been spectacularly unsuccessful at doing so. Mohican is about 4 hours from me, so I would probably do a mid-day Sat to mid-day Sun trip.

Just got off the phone with a ranger from the forest service.

He said site 9 is their "group site" and can accommodate 20 people. All other sites can accommodate 6.

First come, first serve. No reservations.

    No charge.

    No toilets.

No water (I recommend a couple of gallons in a cooler with a hand warmer or two in your trunk if there's no snow on the ground to melt).

Less than a mile hike in.

    This sounds like the spot.

I'm aiming to be there relatively early afternoon on Friday.

If you show up first, please stop at the park office and register us for the group 9 park and pack spot. I said we'd have less than 20 (obviously if more show up we can devise a plan. Probably just fan out into the woods.)

Depending on the weather, I might be able to swing it. Currently we (wife and I) only set of non-summer gear. There are sleeping bag yes, but only 1 UQ (J-Bridge) and only 1 real tarp.

I might just have to leave her and I the dog home for this one haha

Along with this time of year being so crazy with different functions, we also are not at all prepared for winter camping (never had an interest in winter camping until recently )...but we'll figure something out, so I completely know where your coming from. At least your a little ahead of us if that makes you feel any better?

Does anyone have the actual address to that specific parking area we're supposed to use....or GPS coordinates?

I also added to the calendar if you all could check over and make sure that is done right and to everyone's liking. This way members trying to find a hang can easily get to the information.
