    Hanging in UK

    Hey all,

I have now been hammocking twice one in summer with a hammock and a tarp, the second time in the Autumn (Fall) with a modified tent.

When hammocking in the Autmun I had my sleeping bag and thermarest inside a gortex bivi bag that i have used 1000s of time for backwoods camping. I found in the morning at my feet where the hammock had pritty much wrapped round me the bottom of my bivi and sleeping bag were wet as the hammock had not allowed them to breath.

So really I joined to find out if there are hammocks made of breathable material to stop this problem.

    Anyway thats me.

    Jon

    Hi Colgon and welcome.

Most hammocks are made of ripstop nylon so are breathable. Your thermarest is a vapour barrier so that might be the problem. The fact you were wrapped up tight might be a problem. You could try looking at under quilts (or under blankets) which hang outside the hammock underneath. The insulation value is high because you're not compressing it so you get more bang for your buck than for insulation that you lie on.

Hi Jon, what hammock are you using? I had a DD Travel hammock, which can double as a bivi/tent, because it's waterproof, I had problems with it not breathing, I used to wake up soaked.
