    Another First Timer

So I made a ImRisk/ Just Jeff's Test Hammock and I'm going to give it a try tonight in the backyard. It's supposed to get down to 47* F tonight. I'm using a blue pad and I'm hoping I'll be warm enough. I've been thinking about trying a hammock for a while but I couldn't decide which one to get. Then I found how to make a test hammock, I was surprised at how easy it was to make! If it goes well I may purchase a hammock for the summer. Well, we'll see how it goes tonight.

    D80,

Welcome to the site and good luck with the set up. I used both of those sites when I first got started in to hammocking and they are great sites. You are now a member of the best Hammock Forum...and maybe the ONLY Forum dedicated to hammockers.

Let us know how it goes.

    welcome D80.
keep in mind a few basics as you try your 1st hang.
make sure support straps at each end of the hammock are securely attached to the hammock (usually w/ a lark's head on that type hammock).
also be sure they are nicely secure to the trees or whatever you're using.
test by sitting carefully, then swinging.

if you experience "shoulder squeeze, you can help eliminate that by allowing the hammock to hang w/ more sag.

let us know how it goes. ...tim

Welcome aboard, D80. You've found a great group of folks here to hang out with (pun firmly intended) and learn from. If you have questions, ask. Someone will answer, eventually. Glad to have you with us.

My night seemed to go well after the neighbor's dogs stopped barking at something. I ended up sleeping on my back the whole night and I was very comfortable. I woke up a few times, but that's normal for me anyways. When I woke up, my hammock was almost touching the ground. The webbing must have stretched a lot over night.
Any tips on tying my 1" webbing around the trees, and how to readjust after stretching it out some?

Don't use nylon webbing, it will always stretch. PolyPro or Polyester webbing is more appropriate for the task.

    Welcome to the forum.

What material did you make your hammock from? Just wondering if that's what did the stretching.
