I know someone posted a how to on anodizing Aluminum a while back. I never tried it. Recently saw this and thought some may be interested.

    hmmm... Interesting stuff.
I don't currently have a use for this but seems relatively simple.
I favorited it so once I figure out something to anodize I'll have it.
    Thanks for sharing!

Dude, thats pretty cool! A few years ago I found a website, showing how to anodize using acid. This guy had 6 or 7 big vats of battery acid in his garage---------------it was kind of neat, but any way you look at it, it was a really bad idea! This sounds like a very reasonable alternative---------have you tried it yet?
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

Haven't tried it, nor really read all the details closely. I just recall a thread by another quite a while back that had some interest. Thought those that were willing to try the normal acid method may be interested in this method.

Bookmarked this! The geek in me has wanted to play around with anodizing for the last year or two, but with 6 little ones running around, it seemed somewhat irresponsible (even for me ), so I wrote it off as one of those really cool things that I will never wind up doing. Anodizing is back on the list .

Thanks for the heads up, and keep us posted.

I have a silver plating setup I made that would be good for this.

    That was me:

It's an interesting process. I did some experimenting and found that the fabric dyes I was using aren't UV-resistant.

That said, it's still very cool as my K-mart grease pot has worked out well.

I still have a 5 gallon bucket with dilute battery acid and a power supply if anybody wants to pick them up! I anodized some Dutch clips and biners. They were really pretty until left in the sun for a month... then they were grey again. I did notice, however, that the aluminum didn't "smut" (rub black stuff off) anymore... :-)
