Post Mt. LeConte hike in GSMNP; 10/26&27/11

I led a small backpacking trip the last two days over Mt. LeConte in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. No hammocks were involved, as you have to sleep in shelters. I posted photos in an album (link below) with captions. These are my trip report. Enjoy.

We took the Alum Cave Trail up, then the Boulevard Trail over to the Appalachian Trail, then it down to Newfound Gap.

"At 6593 feet, Mount LeConte is the third highest peak in the Smokies. However, measured from its immediate base to its highest point, Mt. LeConte can be considered the tallest mountain in the Eastern United States, rising 5301 feet from its base near Gatlinburg."

I bet you all had a great time.

I did that hike a few years ago, up Rainbow Trail. Stayed at the lodge. It was a challenge and the dinner, bed, bathroom and hot water was awesome. We had a weeks worth of supplies on us. I'd like to do it again but this time with less weight;->

I just spent the past few minutes looking at your gallery, very nice. It was a nice break from the work on my desk. I try to get up to the GSMNP as often as possible and I never tire of the scenery.

    Thanks for the post.

Rainman, thanks for sharing the pics. Looks like you got lucky and got both a sunset and a sunrise. The last time I was at the Jumpoff you could see about fifteen feet--glad you had better views. What was with that pack explosion in the shelter? Looks like a great trip.

What a great way to start the day...sipping a cup of coffee while watching a slideshow of one of Rain Man's trips.
Looks like a great trip. The views of the mountains were spectacular and the sunsets just stunning. I loved the shot looking DOWN at the rainbow.
    Thanks for sharing Ray.
Hope we can meet up some day.
