New to Hammocking

Hello everyone I am new to the whole hammock scene. I come from the standard tent/sleeping pad/bag setup and am looking for more comfort.
Just to test out a hammock setup I was thinking of purchasing the ENO Doublenest as it is cheap, and has good reviews. I read though that thye slapstraps are not very good so I was thinking about getting the whoopie slings "All in One" system for the suspension. If I use my sleeping pad for bottom insulation, is that everything I need?

There is plenty to learn here. Before you just go buy something to try, I would suggest watching Shug's Intro videos http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=15516 , reading thru the articles, and the stickies (threads at the top of each forum). This is where all the info that bears repeating is made permanent and easy to find. There is no one best way to hang, although there are some general methods to make sure you hang safely. The HF crowd is an innovative bunch and is always finding news ways to do things. Start basic, learn, and then experiment to find what works best for you. Find a group hang and attend. You will have opportunity to see lots of different setups. It's a great way to learn.

You will need some type of tarp to keep wind/weather off of you in addition to the hammock and insulation.

Hi, thanks for the response. I did watch shrugs video but I just wanted to post here and make sure that if I bought the ENO Doublenest and the Whoopie slings " All in one" kit that it would be all I need ( aside from the sleeping bag/pad I already have).

I'm in the same "boat" as you, and have been looking at the same eno system. My local army surplus carries them and he let me try the single hammock today and it was very comfortable. My question would be which fly to get. The Dry fly looks great, but is the Pro Fly any better?

Hi, I'm new to hammock camping too.. But I got the Warbonnet Traveler. they start at $60. & ENO at $70.

I am also New (2) Hangs so far!

I purchased a ENO Double and I used a cheapo tarp I had I will change out the slap straps soon and get a Tarp I am just confused on what I want

The ENO IMHO is a good deal and a great way to start hanging and it will make a great summertime nap spot if you decide to stay camping as a ground dweller

I started off with a Hennessy and migrated to simple, gathered-end hammocks like Trek Light, ENO, Grand Trunk, Planet Hammock, HAMMOC -- garwsh, there's a ton, not to mention DIY.

Hanging doesn't need to break the bank or stretch your neck.
