DIBBC - Dutch Inspired BlackBird Cover

Inspired by the cover Dutch has on his Blackbird hammock I set out to make my own today. I have been somewhat dreading getting started on this. One, I wanted it tight, tight in the sense that it follows the lines of the Blackbird. Getting it took some time and some crossing of the fingers while cutting. After getting it done this has to be my top D.I.Y. as of yet. The Blackbird looks like some type of space shuttle or jet.

    Hope you like it.

That's really nice! Great job! I wish I had that kind of skill. Is the idea to increase the warmth in the hammock, provide some privacy keep stuff from dropping onto the netting?

Awesome project. Very nice looking over cover. Hope to get to see it next time we get to hang together.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Thanks Sidewinder. The main reason I made it was to hold in a little heat for cooler temps in the Spring & Fall seasons. These are the times when temps could unpredictable fall, especially in the higher elevations. This is the time of year when I don't carry allot of additional clothing, so I'm hoping if the temps drops lower than expected this cover will help at night to keep some heat in. I usually carry enough clothing to keep me warm for the average temps through the night or setting around camp in the evenings. I could also use it in the summer instead of stringing out my tarp, when the chance of rain is slim to none. It should keep any wet dew and night air off me. I guess it could also be used for privacy.

I never did ask Dutch what he uses his for primarily.

Lazy River Road, I'll bring it to the Mt. Rogers hang if I make it.

BC - Looks good. Does it stay aligned with the hammock edges when you're inside and move around a bit? Or is that a non issue?

You're going to like this and not regret the weight at all. The similar weathershield is one of the excellent features or options on Clarks. You can be ready for temps in clear weather but not have enough quilt or bag for heat stripping wind. The cover takes care of that, without hanging a tarp or changing orientation of the hammock.

And the slight oversize will please you when you can raise the center from within in the morning, flick the cover with your fingers a few times and shed dew outside the hmmck.

    Nice project.
