    Superfly or Mamajamba?

Hello fellow WBBB (and traveler!) lovers,

I have a MacCat Deluxe for my WBBB and while it is a really nice piece of kit, it doesn't offer enough coverage for me. I'd like to be able to hang my pack completely under the tarp (from the hammock ridge line) and have slightly more rain coverage. I'm still new so I'm still working things out.

I do count ounces, but I'm willing to take a small weight penalty. I plan to use the new tarp to thru hike the AT, but it will also be my one-and only-tarp for a while.

As an upgrade in coverage from the Deluxe, what do you recommend?

i can only speak from experience by using a superfly. the doors built in work well! and can be angled various ways to block wind or rain. Have been in a few rain storms & never got wet. held up well to strong winds

if in your budget - have you looked at a large cuben tarp? you can get coverage & really cut ozs

I am pretty partial to my mamajamba, but for full on coverage with attached doors the superfly would be my choice. I went with the mamajamba with the intentions of picking up the add on door kit later on. Either way I don't think one could go wrong with either choice.

i've got all three and love all of them. you're not going to get much more coverage between the deluxe and mama, you'll get 2" on the ridge line and a little more on the bottom due to the 104" vs 120" but between the two the mamajamba has little more.

the superfly,...wow,..it's so roomy. i used it this past friday. if you're using the side pull outs you could comfortably put 2 people and packs all hanging. the olive brown is a great color too.

I have the BMJ and it is a very nice tarp. My wife used it at a group hang last month and stayed nice and dry thru a major rain storm.

I have an edge that's served me well and have a superfly on the way.

Makes a good combination. Little tarp for summer backpacking and big tarp for winter or bad weather. I figure if I want a big tarp with doors, I might as well do it right.

i had the Superfly and loved it. I didnt really like all the lines and ties, so i went down to a Big Daddy from WL which i have yet to put up.

but I can say from experience: ive hung that in a real downpoor in VA and with the edges about 2-3ft off the floor, my stuff under the hammock was dry.

the only thing i can say about the doors are to make sure you have a drip line inside the doors, because in case theres rain going down the doors and can come in on the line.

was totally worth having that big ole thing, and you can tie the doors back when you dont need em

I've had a McCat Standard, Big Mambajamba, and now have my Superfly. I wouldn't trade my Superfly for any other tarp. Having so many set up options is the best. And honestly, the added weight is minimal and once in your pack I would doubt that you notice it. I know I never do...

Most thru hikers are pretty weight conscious.
Have you considered a 2QZQ door for your existing tarp?
