I have used whoopie slings and tree straps on all of my DIY hammocks and find them very easy to use and don't really understand all of the comments about "fiddle factor".

I just got a new WBBB with their style of strap and cinch buckle suspension. I truly wanted to like the suspension. However, so far I hate everything about the strap/cinch buckle suspension and think it is the system with way too much "fiddle factor" and difficulty of use with cold hands.

I love the hammock and hate the suspension. I will make whoopies and install them tomorrow.

I like the whoopies better. i can set my straps and then set the whoopies with one hand while keeping every thing off the ground with the other. as far as minimum hanging, you can hang as close to the tree as you like. set your straps up with the MSH wrapped around the tree so that your toggle sit at the front plane, or to the side of the tree just behind the side where will hang your hammock. if you have a short loop on your hammock, you loop that over your toggle and the end of the hammock could be touching the trees. this could give a shorter hanging distance than straps and buckles.

I didn't get that. How can you stick to the tree with a whoopie sling ? Anyone has a picture ?

Just ordered three BB's and upgraded to the Whoopie Slings after watching Brandon's video on adjusting them both. Seems like the whoopies are simpler and they are lighter too for backpacking. Then I started looking at all the Dutch bling for our tarps and got a headache. Hahahaha!!! I just ordered tarp flies with line attached for the tarps. I picked up some four packs of those niteeyes figure 9 gizmos with line attached to use with the hex tarp tieouts. I can always upgrade to Dutchwear at some point. Love my titanium goodness!!

I use whoopie sling suspension with tree huggers/ Dutch clips
Pro's
wt. 4oz. total for both dutch hooks, whoopie slings, whoopie hooks, and 5' tree huggers
CL's are cheaper to replace than a whole strap
less of a water magnet during rain storms
easier to hook around a tree, no feed through
takes up less pack space
has built in drip line
no freezer burns in winter
holds less water when saturated
can easily secure the extra unused bitter end

Cons
woopie slings sounds like a xxx swing
cant be use as a thick belt

That's why I swapped out my suspension to a full 1/8 Dutch CL and two descender rings on each CL.The new Dutch dyneema straps are pretty awesome imho and the rings are plenty easy to separate,even with gloves on.

I use whoopies and recently experienced something I had never heard of on this forum: one of the trees I hang to was a very undersized tree, which means my hammock was really sagging when I got into it. For all the parameters, I had to hang very close to the ground, and when I woke up in the middle of the night, I noticed my hammock actually had LOWERED about 2 or 3 inches! I can attribute this only to the woopie not holding firm enough with the rocking of the hammock (although there really wasn't any if I wasn't moving in the hammock). Luckily there was no wind that night, otherwise I might have waken up on the boggy ground with my uq wet!

Any of you experienced something like that ?

Would cinch buckles hold better in such circumstances ?

Really small trees will will bend toward the hammock when you get in. You can compensate somewhat by hanging it at less than the normal angle (tighter) and also higher than usual.
