Should have listened to the good folk here.

I got into hammocks last year as a new way to sleep while out camping. It has been fun learning about everything and trying out new set ups in the backyard. Shortly after I joined this forum, I found myself out of a job (coincidence I think) and I decided to take a very extensive trip to my favourite spot outside the city. I planned on staying there for 6 months as there are deer and small mammals to roast over an open fire.

As noted in a previous thread, I was looking for a way to hammock stealthily. Turns out I should have listened to the folks about a harness.

Around my 4th month, I moved my stuff around (I changed sites biweekly) and noticed a perfect hang spot. This was higher than I had been previously, but it was too perfect to pass up. The view was phenomenal and the surrounding tree cover provided protection from the elements. I went to bed and slept like a baby.

I woke up 2 months later. I don't know how, but I ended up falling from my hammock and into a coma. I was lucky to survive, but had some broken bones. I will definitely use a harness next time I go high hanging (next weekend before it gets cold) and I suggest you all do the same if you find yourselves amongst the tree tops!
I was not properly relaxing until I found hammocks.

    Okay, don't leave us hanging

There's a recovery story I want to hear. How did this happen? Who found you (and saved your life!)? What about your gear? Where are you now?

Last but not least: Pics or it didn't happen!

Surely, God could have made a better way to sleep.

    Surely, God never did.

A very scar experience indeed. Hope everything is OK now and your on your road to recovery.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Yes please. This sounds like an incredible story. It may be one of those that lives on in hammock Legend.
