    I find the double layer hammock to be much more supportive on the back. I get much less shoulder squeeze and just an altogether more comfortable lay. They also have more resistance to insects and allow a pad to be placed between the layers where it won't shift around as much.

    I think something should be said for the different weaves of nylon available. I not an expert but from experience it seems that oxford, taffeta, & ripstop all seem to stretch different even when made from the same denier nylon. Stretch seems to be the enemy of comfort in a hammock.

    I made one out of 1.1 and it ripped. I'm 160lbs. Gave it to my girlfriend who weighs 125lbs. So far it works great for her.

    I have not got that many nights on a single layer of 1.9 ripstop. Between myself and the signifigant other, we probably have thirty hangs on a single layer 1.9 DIY and have seen no signs of wear. We even took the thing apart recently and shortened it from 11 ft to 10 ft and replaced the whoopie slings. There were no issues with wear anywhere on the hammock.

    im about 200 and made a double layer 0.9oz ripstop, ive only had a couple of nights in it so far but everything seem to be a ok
