    Type of whip

I'm making my first hammock(gathered end). Not sure how I'm going to sleep in a hammock yet, but I have a question about whipping.
I want to see if there were any down sides to doing a "W" whip on one end(foot) a regular whip on the other(head).
I was going to try this first. Please tell me if my logic is wrong, but I can't stand having my knees locked for long. I was thinking that the "W" whip would help keep them bent a little. I do sleep on my side some times(in bed) so I was thinking a regular whip on the head end might help if my top half moves around.

I know I will probably try it different ways but I was sitting here thinking about it and thought I'd ask the pros.

The saying should be Whip your own hammock. I've tried many combinations of whipping,

no real reason NOT to whip the way you want. One of my favorites was Warbonnet Style on the head, HH rolled on the feet. Now I'm just lazy and do WB style on both and add a footbox to keep my TQ from escaping.

You can always redo the whipping if it is not right. One advantage of doing two types of whipping is you can switch head and foot ends and try something different . . . W on the head end and regular at the foot.

I have made three different hammocks all with different types of whipping. The most comfortable for me (by far) is the Knotty video gathered end method. Take that for what it is worth.

I started out with the gathered end, shown by Knotty in his thread, both ends of my hammock. After chasing my sleeping bag out of the edge several time I decided to use the W whip on the foot end with the edges pulled to stiffen the edges so the sleeping bag would stay put better.

What I noticed was a dramatic increase in calf pressure if I didn't hang the foot end high enough. When I did hang it right it worked like a dream, super comfortable (though not any more than having both ends just gathered) and my sleepingbag didn't slide out the side at night. Another thing that I didn't like was that when using my hammock as a chair the tighter edge was uncomfortable under my legs feeling like it was cutting in. Eventually I undid the whipping and returned to a gathered end and added the stretch side mod that Knotty showed.

Of course now Knotty has combined the two ideas together to for the Stretch-Side Hammock

Of course YMMV, HYOH, WYOH, ROFL, M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E, and any other acronym you can think of that may or may not fit the situation.

    Thanks all,

With no major problems with my first dyi idea it's full steam ahead.
So many options, I guess I just need to hang and find out what suits me.
