Has anyone tried a whoopie on tarps?

    Hi guys,

My brother and I have been hammock camping for about a year and a half, and we have grown tired of the massive amount of line on the tarp tie out points. We both have the HH Hex rainflys and have thought about swapping the line for whoopie slings on the 4 stake points.

My question is whether anyone has tried this and found that it doesn't save any weight, or time. Also whether or not we would have issues with to much tension on the line causing the stake to come out of the ground. Really what I'm looking for is a reason not to do this, cause to me it would be much easier and a bit lighter with this setup. Any thoughts or concerns are appreciated.
    Thanks

I did it with some mason's line some time ago. I think CreativeCayt and a few others have too...

I found it to be more work than it's worth. A trucker's hitch is quick to tie, holds great, and offers some leverage when tying down. A whoopie uses twice the length of line needed...

I like knots... gives me something to do!

I know of some local hangers that have done the whoopie slings on the tarp guy out lines. It works for them, but in my thinking, as John points out, it uses more line than necessary to get the job done. Also whoopie slings under tension are very hard to undo.

For my tarp lines, I use a DIY version of the whoopieslings.com self tensioning tarp lines. Which is basically a fixed eye spliced in some zing it and uses a prussic larks head onto the tarp guy out point for adjustment. I love it, easy adjustment even when raining.

    Cheers

i've played around with this in my backyard and once you put a woopie under tension it is pretttttty much impossible to loosen said tension so you could potentially be cutting it to get your tarp down. It personally took me like 15 minutes to get it loose enough to get it off of the biner i attached it with.

Definitely more trouble than they are worth. Some line and a knowledge of a couple of knots and hitches is much quicker IMO.

Well after checking out the responses today I think I got my answer as far as this is concerned. I looked at a few of shugs videos and like the cord's you used that have a little shock cord for give, and may give those a try for faster and cleaner setup.
